About the artist:
Natsuki Otani is a Tokyo born illustrator living and working in Sweden. She uses bold, vibrant colors and detailed figures to unite both dreams and reality, with occasional touches of the macabre to counterpoint her sweet and childlike subjects. She hopes that her illustrations can make people happy if even just for the moment.
About the printed design:
Natsuki wanted to draw something that would encourage children (and adults) to enjoy lunch or any mealtime. After discussing a number of inspirations and concepts with Schooled by Paper’s founder, John, she settled on the design here: a boy and a girl in a fantastical taiyaki airship who are explorers and “evangelists” of food. She also wanted to communicate that girls can be leaders or heroes in a subtle way, so the girl happens to be leading this particular adventure!
